Course Description

Safety of chemical process remains a key issue for the chemical and petrochemicals industry. A first step will be to sensitize the student to the risk analysis methods and to techniques of control and automation processes. In a second step the student will conduct a project to design and manage a production unit with great software (Aspen Hysys) and validate the safety of the process in terms of chemical hazards.


Chemical hazards, safe operating procedures, control, thermal runaway, Process simulation (Aspen), methods of risk analysis (HAZOP, tree events and tree failures).

Learning Outcomes

- Be able to determine the safety limits of a chemical process by making a simulation of the production process
- Be able to validate the safe operating procedures by applying methods of risk analysis.
